15 of the Worst First World Problems

Hey y'all!
So. First World Problems. I've talked about them before, and we all agreed that no matter how entitled they make us seem, they exist. So here are what I feel like are the WORST first world feelings ever:

*Getting a Snapchat screenshot notification
I apologize for the terrible cloning job- I just wanted to protect my friends' privacy!

*Watching your helium balloons fly away, knowing that you can't do anything

*Discovering that you had something in your teeth and no one told you

*Drinking a ton of water and having to pee every half hour w/ everyone judging you

*Catching up with your favorite show and being left with an empty feeling inside from lack of show (*cough cough Baby Daddy*)

*Thinking you have a lot of food left and turns out you don't. You just don't have time to build up the mental fortification for the end.

*Wind and hair on a good hair day

*Forgetting something super important at home

*Remembering someone's name an hour after you needed to

*When you accidentally press ctrl-Q on the computer and lose all of your tabs

*When your hair is perfect at night, but looks like a gorilla finger-combed it in the morning

*Sending a chat/text/email to the wrong person

*Thinking you sent an email, but actually just leaving it as a draft

*Sending an email before you're done writing it OR forgetting the attachment

*When NONE of the Instagram filters can make your photo look good.
No shame, I actually made these smoothies for my brother and myself to pour into these mason jar cups to take an artsy picture of to Instagram. And it did not work. At all. I filtered it SO much, but it still looks terrible. Oh well.

Tell me now, what are your most hated first world problems? Can you relate to any of the ones above?

5 Reasons Why I Could Never Be a Fashion Blogger

We've all seen them- hair masterfully curled, make up flawless, perfectly pleated shirts, and sky high heels. Not only is every outfit perfectly color and season coordinated, their nails are painted to match, and their jewelry looks like it should be on the runway. Each one of their 20 pictures per post is magazine-worthy, with beautiful barn backdrops or in rustic tea shops. As I peruse through these posts, a singular thought stands out in my mind- I could never be a fashion blogger. Here's why:

1. Most of my outfits look like this, with variations on top. Leggings, boots or flats, and a blouse. Today, I happened to be cold in the 70 degree California weather, so I threw on a jacket.

2. I do not have beautiful #ootd locations. Beautiful barns? Nope. Cultured cities? Nope. Vintage tea shops? Nope. My mirror at home? Yes. Brick walls because my school was built in 1965? Yes. A lot. Check out this post for more evidence of that.

3. I take most of my pictures with my pathetic phone, and I do not have 3000 pictures, from every possible angle, showcasing every possible detail of my outfits. Nope, just one for Instagram. Also, as lovable as I am, no one wants to take 3000 pictures of someone else.

4. When I find something I like, I wear it. A lot. This morning my mother said, and I quote "Hima, you're such a hobo. This is the third day in a row you're wearing that jacket." I LIKE IT AND IT'S WARM OKAY LEAVE ME ALONE.

5. I could never live up to my swagalicious (hi somya) parents. I mean, look at that deep v-neck. And mom, those hammer pants. #werk. You're also really cool with your gang signs.
I only wish I had inherited their coolness.

Things I'm Guilty Of

Everyone has bad habits quirks, right? I know that there are some stereotypical ones (i.e. nail biting), but I'm sure there are some unique to each person. Here are mine!

*Mentally responding to texts and emails, but never actually responding or responding a week later

*Reading blog posts all the way through but not commenting. I get lazy.

*Flossing my teeth two days before the dentist, and pretending I have no idea what she's talking about when she mentions my inflamed gums

*Taking 01984029384 pictures so I have one salvageable one

Exhibit A. I made Sneha take at least 12 pictures before I settled on this one. Oh also, I found this bear in a teacher's classroom. I named him Paddington. The first thing I'm going to do when I turn 18 is go buy myself a Paddington from Costco (because no way is my mom going to let me buy one for the house).

*Recording TV shows (New Girl, anyone?) and not watching them for weeks.

*Collecting WAY too many random notebooks because they're adorable and I will have a purpose for them some day. Remember that notebook I got from Tiny Prints? I still haven't written a word in it because I can't decide what's important enough to write in it. I still carry it to and from school every day though.

*Not being productive until it really matters

*Rewearing an outfit a million times because I really like it- i.e. not making new combos with the clothes.

*Playing with my hair when I'm bored

*Waiting until the very last second to charge my dying computer. (I'm at 8% as I write this!)

*Finding a song I like and listening to it on loop until I'm sick of it

* Putting too many books on hold and not being able to read them, so I end up staying up later than my already late junior year bed time to read and I regret it the next day.
What are you guilty of? Share them with me in the comments below!

It's a Dog's Life [Letter from Bella]

Hi friends!
Bella here, stepping in for Hima because she’s
1.     under a pile of annotations (15 pages, size 8 font) due tomorrow
2.     too lazy to get together her February goals post

I’d like to assume you’ve met me before, mostly because Hima is a little bit obsessed with how cute I am, but here’s the formal spiel. My name is Bellatrix, and I was rescued from the shelter 2 years ago. I didn’t like people very much before, but I have a lot of friends now! Hima just said something about my typical day- I’m not really sure what she meant, but I really liked the title I came up with, so I’ll just go with that.

I wake up around 6:30 each morning, around the same time as Hima and our brother Yash do. The first thing I do is run into everybody’s room and say good morning. After getting all the belly rubs I can get, I begin my morning rounds through the house, making sure that nothing was taken during the night. Sometimes, if I see a leaf moving through the window, I bark my head off, because clearly this leaf poses a huge threat to my family. You never know, it could be hiding a scary robber or something!
I assume my position on the top of the couch to watch the kids eat (I can get some of their food if I’m lucky!!) and just keep a general lookout. You know, in case there are more robbers. Or one of the kids is eating peanut butter. I’m all over that!

After Hima and Yash leave for school, I kinda laze around for a while, until someone takes me for a walk. I love laying on the carpet in the sun- it’s just so warm and comfy and makes me so sleepy! Walks- I love them. Of course, I do my doggy duty and stop to smell every single blade of grass and mailbox and flower and rock and crack in the sidewalk- just keeping up with what’s important.

Sometimes, I get to go pick up Yash and Hima from school, which is always fun. I love seeing Hima’s friends. I’m not always sure that they’re her friends though, so I bark at all of them. Better safe than sorry right? Oh, and I always have to sit in the front seat of the car. I don’t care if there’s anyone already sitting there- I just sit on them.

When we get home, we all have a snack. I have whatever the kids are having…well, whatever they give me really. Yash is pretty good about resisting, but all I have to do is look at Hima and she practically puts the plate in front of me. I love it!

This is what I do when I want food. It never fails.
I really like when Hima takes homework breaks and plays with me. She’s really good at throwing the tennis ball around the house without breaking anything, and she’s the only one who will get under the couch to grab it out when it rolls under. My passions include Tug O’ War, dancing, and doga (dog yoga). What can I say? I’m well rounded.

This continues until 10 or 11, and then we all go to sleep. Or I have to pose while Hima takes pictures of me. Which is literally all the time. I'm so done with her and Instadog or whatever it's called. Anyway, I've gotta go inspect the perimeter of the house again. I'll see you next time Hima is too lame to function! busy.

Stay classy, Bella.

P.S. So today (2/4) is National Cancer Awareness Day, and Chevrolet is partnering with the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research. For each person who changes their Facebook/Twitter profile to purple (just follow the link), Chevrolet is donating $1. I definitely purpled it up, and I'd encourage you to do the same! :)

You got it, Dude: Catchphrases Gone Bad

Hey y'all! It's Friday, but this is by no means a party weekend for me. I'm taking the SAT Saturday morning (yay me!), so in honor of the vocab section on the test, I thought I'd talk to y'all about the limits of my vocabulary.
It was cute when Michelle Tanner said it the first 300 times, but every catchphrase has its limits. I’ve realized that a couple of my catchphrases, aka things that I say approximately 600 times a day, are getting old. Things I say WAY too much:

In all honesty….

Maybe I think it makes me sound smart or something, but not when I start every other sentence with it. People will trust what I’m saying regardless of if I tell them I’m not lying or not.

HOLLA

Just kidding, I’m still not over this. It’s pretty much my favorite word. I will find a way to describe just about anything. New profile picture? Holla at you, girl. Rubio’s for lunch? HOLLA.

Dudes (used the same way most normal people say dude)
It has to be plural, even if I’m only talking to one person. This makes just about zero sense, but I say it maybe 4 or 5 times a day anyway. More proof of how my mind pretty much doesn’t work.

Literally
I’ve always hated when people say that they “literally just got here.” What, did you figuratively go home yesterday? The sad thing is, I say it a lot too. I’m trying to be more conscious of this though, even though it’s literally the hardest thing ever.

What do you say way too much? Any catchphrases gone bad in your vocabulary?

My laptop is about to die, but I can't reach the charger

Don't shake your head at me your screen. That has totally happened to you. And then you've had to build up the willpower to get up and grab your charger, after which you sit down and claim that you've had enough exercise for the day. And then you continue to browse the Pinterest (follow me!) fitness boards.

Here's the deal: On Saturday, I went to go get my hair trimmed, because 1) I haven't gotten it cut in forever and 2) it was gettin' real straggly at the ends. All I wanted was a trim. Goodbye 5 inches of hair! And then I cried over it.
And then I cried some more because I thought I was a bad person for crying over a bad haircut and how entitled that made me seem.
And then this blog post of first world problems was born.
Tell me if you.....

have ever gotten "just a trim" which turns out to be incredibly short

have ever run out of space on a piece of paper with just a couple of lines worth left to write

try to write something after not writing for a long time and your handwriting is absolutely disgusting. In other words, your handwriting goes like this:

Moving on...

"your song" being played on the radio and becoming the world's most popular song. This happened to me with Lorde and Royals. I was so mad.

turning on the radio to catch the very end of your favorite song

when your pen runs out of ink and you're desperately trying to make it work

when you're trying to rip perforated paper out of a notebook and it rips the wrong way (IT'S PERFORATED FOR GOD'S SAKE THAT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN)

when your phone is at 5% battery and you have to leave the house, so you charge it for two minutes and hope it lasts all day

when your friends yell at you because you haven't written a blog post in multiple days

when you take a really good picture and you want to make it your profile picture but you can't because you just changed your profile picture and you'll look narcissistic.

when you take 12093821039 pictures and SOMEONE closes their eyes in every. single. one.

So now be honest with me- do these frustrate all y'all or am I just the most easily annoyed person on the planet? What makes you want to just fall into your bed and scream into your pillow? Or at the very least, share your struggles with your besties over Snapchat?

xo, Hima

P.S. I just updated the comments to Disqus because I didn't want to deal with no-reply bloggers anymore, so please bear with any technical difficulties and shoot me an email at himahearts@gmail.com to let me know. Also....I added a hovering Pin it button on top of all images if you want to pin any of my posts YAY :)

How To Write A Hit Song in 10 minutes

I've been seriously listening to music for what, 6 years now? And so I'm definitely an expert. From my long study in music, and my recent deduction skills acquired by burning through 2 seasons of Sherlock in 4 days, I've put together a surefire list of ways to write a hit song and earn millions of dollars.

Sidenote: Tell me if you watch Sherlock, because my brother and I are seriously obsessed and spent yesterday afternoon learning how to play the theme on the piano and violin. Let's fangirl together pleeeease.

Okay, back to my get rich quick plan.

1. Think about what you love, what you’re really passionate about. For some people, it’s a type of  food, and for others it’s a day of the week. So if you're as Pinterest addicted as I am, sing about OOTDs and supposedly simple DIYs to your heart's content.

2.  Write about your recent break-up, but add some catchy lines, hopefully with some words that show that you really mean it. Multiple "evers" to show that your relationship is over for good are a must. Also, include some line about hipsters, because that's a must these days, according to T.Swizzle and the Zac Brown Band. I mean, it worked for Adele didn't it? Never mind that her voice is like melted caramel.

3. Write about how you found yourself after you hit rock bottom and are now the star of your own life. Puh-lease, we all know that you’re a firework. Make sure that you include all cliché phrases known to mankind. Heck, you can even just string together a bunch of inspiring quotes and put them to a tune.

#twinningwithkaty
4. Write down a lot of meaningful phrases that sound deep but mean absolutely nothing. Make your song a metaphor for life, food, school, animals, social media, technology, and everything in between. In other words, be so vague that your song can apply to literally anything. Don't forget to come up with a super artsy album cover.

5. Be Beyonce. Because when you’re Beyonce, you can surprise the whole world by releasing an album with no advertisement or promo whatsoever, and become the fastest selling iTunes album in history. After all, she is Queen Bey (shoutout to Lorde because she’s my fave).

Well, there you have it. My guide to writing the top songs of 2014. What would you write about if you had to write a song? Other than Pinterest, of course.
